One of the great benefits of working from home is my garden gets a lot more attention – which I love. Gardens feed the soul – setting it up, planting, weeding, trimming, watching it grow – and just enjoying it. It helps create a balance and inspiration for my art.
Time away from painting is therapeutic resulting in new ideas, renewed energy and a clearer mind. Gardening, walking along the beach, window shopping, visiting friends, making new friends… My eyes are always open – but not in a frenzied information gathering sense but more a gentle, washing over state that will result in creative thoughts and inspirations rising to the surface.
When I am intentionally taking a break from painting I allow myself to switch off from a ‘working mindset’ and focus on enjoying what is in front of me. This way I’m present for day to day experiences. However, the way I perceive the world is through my creative lense so it is only natural that I’m subconsciously gathering creative ideas.
