There are always flowers

There are always flowers

Flowers were one of the big highlights and places of solace for me during two long, Covid lockdowns where we were limited to a 5km radius.

Fortunately, both these lockdowns, in 2020 and 2021, occurred as gardens were coming alive with beautiful flowers. Everyday I would walk past the same gardens visiting my flower ‘friends’ and often finding new ones along the way.  Everyday the flowers were open a little more.

As Henry Matisse commented,

‘There are always flowers for those who want to see them’.

And this beautiful quote from William Shakespeare,

‘The earth has music for those who listen’.

Covid lockdowns helped me slow down and appreciate the beauty of my neighbourhood.

It was also the beginning of that little thought, ‘maybe I could paint full time’ – a thought that darted across my mind initially and one that I gave no serious thought to at the time.  I’ll continue this part of the journey in my next blog entry…
